Mikhail Pirogov in the role of Herman

Although the plot of Pushkin's The Queen of Spades did not really interest Tchaikovsky at first. But over time, this novel captured his imagination more and more. The work was started in Florence on 19 February 1890. The opera was created, according to the composer, "with self-oblivion and pleasure" and was completed in a very short time: forty-four days. The premiere took place in St Petersburg at the Mariinsky Theatre on 7 (19) December 1890 and was a huge success. In general, nothing has changed now.…

On 2 March, Tchaikovsky's mystical drama The Queen of Spades will be performed on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus. The soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theatre (St. Petersburg) Mikhail Pirogov will appear in the role of Herman.

"In my opinion, Herman is a desperate and uncontrollable person who carried away his weakness and the desire to win at all costs. And this fatal passion won over him..." said Mikhail Pirogov (Honoured Artist of the Republic of Buryatia, winner of the Russian National Golden Mask Award).
